Brookside Inn: Coping with Isolation Issues
Dear Brookside Inn Residents, Family, Friends and Partners,
All skilled nursing facilities in Colorado received an executive order from Governor Polis in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to submit a COVID-19 isolation plan by 5/1/20. We have completed our isolation plan and have submitted it to the governor.
Governor Polis stated, ““We know that you all want your parents, your grandparents, to have the very best protection and we want to do our best as a state to provide that.”
Brookside Inn understands that isolation can be especially trying for our residents and their families because of visitor restrictions meant to keep them safe. Recognizing this, we have purchased additional tablets in order to facilitate tele visits with families as well as providers.
The Giving Tree
Our Activity Department recently has been receiving many inquiries how the community can help them out during this challenging time since we are not allowed to perform group activities. Our very own Activity Assistant, Lindsey Templeton, has created an “Amazon Giving Tree” wish list donation site.
This donation site is a wish list link set up on Amazon.com that people can use to donate from the registry to keep people out of stores and still be able to help the Activity Department. Brookside Inn would use the donations for individual activities for our residents.
Examples of donations would be coloring books, two player games, crafts, etc. They have also requested snacks and drinks for our hard-working staff. The Activity team will create baskets of snacks for each hall to help limit movement throughout the facility and stay compliant with our Infection Control guidelines.

Brookside Inn is Hiring
Brookside Inn is currently enrolling students for upcoming CNA Classes, taking place May 11 – 22, June 15 – 26, & July 17-28, 2020. Each session runs approximately three weeks and takes place at BSI’s training facility in downtown Castle Rock. The coursework trains students on the art and science of being a CNA, and prepares them to take the state license exam. Our CNA course costs about a third of what other regional CNA training courses cost and scholarships are available! Following completion of the CNA course, graduates are welcome to apply to join the Brookside team. Please reach out to Greg Palmer at hr@bsisnf.com to learn more and to start applying for the class today.

QAPI Update
Brookside Inn’s QAPI project for 2020 of fall prevention strives to decrease the number of falls throughout the facility. The Fall Prevention team, the ‘Star Gazers’, is excited to announce that we continue to see a decrease in the number of monthly falls throughout the facility. We had a significant drop in falls throughout March, and are pleased to see the trend continue through April.
The hard work of the ‘Star Gazers’ team and all staff has paid off. We almost achieved our goal in April!
Celebrating our Nurses
Brookside Inn will be celebrating Nurses Week May 6th through the 12th as well National Nursing Home Week May 13th through the 19th.
We have some fun plans to help celebrate our Nurses and all our staff during that time. We have such dedicated, wonderful staff that truly make Brookside Inn a special place to live and work!
